Tango/04 Adds UNIX, AIX, and Linux to System Monitoring Solution

Product provides easy-to-identify icons that show the operating health of each infrastructure component.

Companies with applications running on UNIX, AIX and Linux servers or logical partitions can improve the availability and performance of their business services using the new dedicated ThinAgents of VISUAL Message Center, Tango/04's IT operations monitoring and Business Service Management solution.

Tango/04 Computing Group, a leading developer of software solutions for Systems Management, Security Auditing, Operations Monitoring and Business Service Management (BSM), today released a set of new Linux, AIX, Sun Solaris and Syslog ThinAgents, providing VISUAL Message Center with new monitoring capabilities that complement its existing coverage of iSeries and Windows servers; Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server databases, and network components.

VISUAL Message Center incorporates new ThinAgents for monitoring servers running Linux and UNIX operating systems. In the enterprise views the color of the icons helps the user instantly assess the operating health state of every infrastructure component.

"IT infrastructures are increasingly heterogeneous, and as a result, there is a growing need to monitor all the diverse technological components that support business services from a single management console," says Raul Cristian Aguirre, CEO of Tango/04 Computing Group. "VISUAL Message Center helps companies consolidate their IT infrastructure management to ensure the integrity, availability and optimal performance of their business services across servers and databases."

The new Linux and AIX ThinAgents can be easily configured to monitor any number of servers - or logical partitions of IBM iSeries systems - in agent-less mode. UNIX servers with operating systems other than AIX or Sun Solaris can be monitored using the Syslog ThinAgent. An HP-UX ThinAgent will be released soon.

Easy to use ThinAgents
The new Linux, AIX, Sun Solaris and Syslog ThinAgents can capture any data that can be retrieved using a command, including file system usage, load average, CPU usage, jobs with abusive CPU consumption, number of processes, utilization of physical and virtual memory, processes per user and virtual memory (swap).

UNIX servers other than AIX or Sun Solaris can be monitored with the Syslog ThinAgent, which reads UDP syslog messages from UNIX servers. The collected events are sent to VISUAL Message Center's SmartConsole to be integrated in an enterprise view or in any custom dashboard.

VISUAL Message Center's AIX FileSystem ThinAgent allows control of the use of IBM AIX file systems, consolidating its indicators in the same console that monitors the rest of your infrastructure.

The Syslog ThinAgent can also monitor any UDP Syslog enabled network devices. Enhanced monitoring of network availability and components can be implemented using VISUAL Message Center's ThinAgents for network monitoring, including POP3, SMTP, SNMP, FTP, Web applications availability, response time and transaction time. Furthermore, the Applications Agent module can retrieve and process plain text logs with any format.

All ThinAgents use Tango/04's ThinkServer monitoring technology, which shares a common logic and data source to manage a variety of agents in order to minimize resource usage and improve scalability. ThinAgents can run in agent-less mode for simplified deployment and further resource savings. They come preconfigured according to best systems monitoring practices.

Simplifying IT Operations Monitoring
VISUAL Message Center provides IT directors and operators with an intuitive graphical interface, SmartConsole, where all the monitored events are filtered and prioritized. Real-time dashboards can be configured very easily and now can show the health status of AIX, UNIX and Linux servers and partitions. These dashboards can provide different levels of visualization, from detailed technical information up to high-level Business Views for every IT platform, location or business service.

The SmartConsole can react to predefined events by executing automated action sets, or can alert operators by email or SMS when their intervention is required.

VISUAL Message Center's Reporting System can easily generate historical reports in any standard format. For UNIX, AIX and Linux systems, hundreds of reports and charts are available for performance, compliance, events, systems usage, security, errors, users and much more. They are useful for demonstrating compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLA), IT best practices and regulations, as well as for justifying upgrades.

The operating health of your Sun Microsystems machines running the Solaris operating system can also be monitored using VISUAL Message Center. The state indicators can easily be integrated into Business Views and Enterprise Views.
